My name is Irene Martinez, O.T.R./L. What the letters after my name mean is that I am an Occupational Therapist. I specialize in Neuro-Development and Sensory Integration, and have over 20 years of clinical expertise in Pediatrics.
Occupational Therapy is the rehabilitative science that helps a person function effectively in the world. It is designed to empower people in performing ADL (Activities of Daily Living), which are meaningful to them; encouraging a balance in work, rest and play. For a newborn child it may mean discovering the face of a loved one, or feeding successfully; for an older child, it might mean being able to scribble an expression of their love for you.
I have a passion for enjoying this moment, and for living life naturally, which helps ensure the rest of our human family has the same opportunity.
What I do
Through my experience in acute care, I have the privilege to help guide new parents, and parents of babies with special needs, in promoting the best beginnings of Life.
In my private practice, I help older children continue to discover, interact and learn from the world so they can express their own gifts. It is wonderful to encourage greater understanding, and satisfying relationships within the family–that is the core team! I am glad to be able to play in ‘home’ court.
Why I do it
The first few months, and years, are critical in setting up a healthy foundation for a happy life.
I can help enhance the benefits of this precious time.
